Al Salam Bank, the pioneering
Shari’a-compliant bank in the Kingdom, held an exceptional induction
gathering at the Sheraton Hotel Bahrain on July 2nd to welcome 26 young
Bahraini university students into its 13th annual summer internship
program, a training and development initiative designed to shape the
future leaders of Bahrain’s banking industry.
The students are currently completing their respective majors in
Business Management, Islamic Banking & Finance, Information Systems,
Human Resources, Accounting, Law, Islamic Studies, Fiqh amongst other
fields at the University of Bahrain and other local and international
private universities.
Over the next two months, they will undergo
comprehensive training within key departments at the Bank, including
Retail Banking, Shari’a Compliance, Operations, Risk Management, HR, and
Marketing and Communications, amongst others.
Welcoming the interns, Al Salam Bank’s Head of Human Resources and
Administration, Ms. Muna Al Balooshi, said: “As the pioneering
Shari’a-compliant Bank in the Kingdom, Al Salam Bank is dedicated to
supporting and developing Bahraini talent through its Corporate Social
Responsibility program.
During the yearly internship program, students
acquire a wealth of knowledge through expert mentorship, gaining
valuable experience and practical skills that will help them to excel
once they join the Kingdom’s workforce.”
Ms. Al Balooshi added: “The summer internship program has gone from
strength to strength and continues to attract a growing number of
applicants each year.
Thanks to the practical feedback we received from
previous participants, we are able to consistently improve the program,
which now includes an intensive career planning and development session.
The session plays a major role in building our intern’s expertise and
gives them a broader idea of the career opportunities available to them
once they graduate.”
This year, the program will include a one-day workshop with Bahrain
Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) Center for Leadership &
Management lecturer Manal Al Khan. The interns will gain insight into
the importance of team building, time management and develop more
effective problem solving and communication skills. In addition,
representatives from KPMG, one of the most recognized accounting firms
in the world, will conduct a technical session that will further assist
the interns to progress in their careers.
The 2019 program will also
include a visit to Bahrain Fintech Bay, where the interns will develop a
broader understanding of the latest digital incubation platforms.
The Bank has successfully run its summer internship program since 2007
and has welcomed more than 300 interns to date.
